This week's topic was suggested by Paisley. Thanks so much!

1) What is your philosophy on food?

To nourish myself without harming or abusing another creature.  If we all moved closer toward a vegatarian diet, there would be food and water enough for everyone on the planet. Cows consume the vast majority of grains and water on this planet- so people can eat cheeseburgers and drink milk. 30,000 people on the planet die of starvation every single day. They don't have to.

2) What's your favorite kind of food? Why?

I love asparagus. I love avacados. I love Indian food- so many veg choices. Yum yum. My favorite meals are homemade- stir-fry (fresh veggies + seasoned tofu), vegetarian tacos with Tofutti Sour Supreme and avacados, and veggies and tofu baked with spaghetti sauce.

3) What qualities do you seek in the food you eat?

Health, vibrancy, good energy. I prefer organic living foods fresh from my local CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture).  I have never had such fresh food in all my life. The veggies at the supermarket are completely dead in comparison.

4) How can you use food in worship/ritual/spiritual practices?

I think eating IS a spiritual practice. We should be aware and attentive when we eat, aware of what we consume on levels, in all aspects. We should love our food and have gratitude for its nourishment. I think it is also good practice to bless your food and imbue it with intention to be exactly what we need at that moment.

5) What is missing in today's eating habits? What's missing in your eating habits?

I think a great many things are missing for people today- like meals together. I think it is important for family and friends to break bread together in joy. It is important for parents and children to make that eye to eye connection AT LEAST once a day.  Also, so many people eat on the run. They hardly know they have eaten, let alone how their body responded to what they put in it. We need to slow down.

What's missing from my eating habits...? Hmmm, I thought of something earlier, but it has slipped my mind now... I sit with my family for dinner each evening, we eat whole foods, vegan, I gave up soda pop, caffiene and fast food months ago (Taco Bell and Pepsi were my junk food hold-outs, but no more), I drink water all day... I could appreciate my food more and remember to bless it... Oh, I am still working on cutting most sugar from my diet. I eat too much breakfast cereal that is just junk. Like Frosted Flakes or Fruity Pebbles.

6) Have any favorite recipes you want to share?

The BEST salad dressing in the whole wide world-

1 cup Flax Oil (with lignans)

1/2 cup Balsamic Vinegar

1/2 cup Soy Sauce or Braggs (I mix the 2 to make 1/2c total)

3 cloves Garlic, crushed

Shake, pour over big fresh salad and eat! It's also a great bread dip, like for pizza crust, and great on Boca burgers.

Great food insights & observations!
I share your beliefs and food joys and your favorite recipe as well! :)

I just tend to split it in 2 favorite dressings - one with flax seed oil and Bragg’s raw unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar and the other - cold pressed extra virgin olive oil with italian blasamic vinaigrette - both divine! :)
Yummy,
Darina
